I may have to come back to this. Right now Brit, my 3 1/2 month old black Lab puppy, is sleeping at my feet under my desk chair. The clock is ticking on his potty capacity, so to speak. He's been up in my office for a long while, mostly sleeping. We're in the final 5% of housebreaking, and he can go about two hours before the dam springs a leak. And we'd better be outside when it does.
This is deflecting away from the fact that I have neglected this blog so pathetically that I'm hanging my head in shame. In the past year, so much of my research, reading and attending conferences has been focused on the importance of having a good blog and keeping it up.
I like to quote Michaelangelo in these kinds of instances -- Ancora imparo. I am still learning... Learning about blogging and the other tidal wave elements of social media. It is good to blog. It is good to have readers of that blog. It is good to have people comment on your blog -- well, most of the time. I've read some on-line discussions and comments on various sites that have curled my hair, and I wasn't even the one they were directed to.
It can be a daunting thing to put your voice out there into the universe of the internet -- literally the whole world. But that is what a writer does. It is what -- for whatever reason -- we are compelled to do. And if we're really lucky and very good -- we get to be paid for that.
I am making a promise to the empty airwaves that I will post and blog and learn more. As I just commented on someone else's blog -- this is the wave. Surf's up, and it's either ride it, or get swamped.
And if I don't get Brit outside imminently, I will be swamped in a puppy puddle.
